History: 

Department of Geography started its journey since 2001. Presently all the undergraduate courses (both honours and general) are run as per the syllabus of West Bengal State University. This is one of the departments which has quite a strength of students in the college. From the very beginning, the department is determined to provide a platform for students which are of great academic standards.

Facilities: 

The department is well-equipped with learning resources like well-equipped laboratory, computer facilities, instruments to meet academic demands of the students. Remote Sensing & GIS facilities with 21st century software are taught to train students to be job ready after the courses. Other computer applications like MS office are also taught along with the regular practical lessons. This will help students to pursue higher studies in Geography directly or other related employments.

Major activities: 

The major activities of the department are classroom lectures, internal assessment, annual examinations, remedial classes for all students (both theory and practical), mentoring of the students, GISpractice on regular basis, field study and syllabus oriented topic based class seminar.  The students are also encouraged to participate in poster presentations, seminars, projects, fieldwork excursion to acquire geographical knowledge from the real life experience.

Departmental library: 

The department has library of books largely following CBCS syllabus for regular consultations of the students. The modern teaching methods with the aid of ICT are regularly used as a teaching learning method.

Other activities:

The department encourages the students to participate in the annual sports of the college, annual function, and different programmesof the college. Students from the department also actively participate in theNSS unit of the college which is of great repute in the region.

Staffs: 

The department is run by well trained and dedicated teaching and non teaching staffs. The department has the guidance of energetic teachers who are constantly engaged for the betterment of the standard of teaching, learning and overall ecosystem of the department. They areactively engaged in research work and also publish research papers in reputed journals on regular basis.
